Today was bittersweet. It was discharge day, which had me super emotional through all last night. :( But it was a great day with Emerson so that helped a lot with going home.

But I knew going home, sleeping in my own bed, seeing the dogs, and being with Grant is probably just what I needed. So tried to just focus on the moments I had with Emerson.

We were surprised when we arrived in the nursery and found out that Emerson was bottle fed! The nurse said he handled the bottle feeding well! Incredible. We weren't expecting this for a few more weeks! We just missed the bottle feeding, but were super anxious to catch his 5pm feeding.

We packed up my room, signed the paperwork and I was officially discharged :( The nurse wheeled me down to the car. We decided that we would leave the hospital for lunch and come back, kind of a trial run of leaving the hospital before officially leaving for the night. We went to Red Coat Tavern for lunch. YUM! I think I did ok because I knew I was coming back! LOL We got back just in time for Emerson's 5pm feeding. We watched the nurse feed him and it was amazing. There he was, four days old, sucking from a bottle like a champ! This boy is such a fighter! The nurse said that she would help me feed him at his next feeding :)

I was really nervous to feed him with the bottle, but the nurse coached me through. From how to hold him, to positioning the bottle, and burping. He is so small and fragile that it was a little scary, especially burping him. Trying to support his little head was tricky! But was able to support it from the front, sitting him up more, and leaning him forward and we got the cutest little burp :)

After we fed him, the nurse asked if we would like to bathe him too. It is just a sponge bath but we also washed his hair. She helped me position him under my arm like a football, and gently scooped the water over his head to wash his hair. He hated it! LOL We washed his little body as he squirmed everywhere. He looked so cute with his peach fuzz hair when we were done. Loved every minute of it :)

By the time we left I was just happy. I think that was good for me on the day that I was going home. No tears!
