Had baby outside of his little bubble for a long while today. Longest that we have had a chance to hold him. He also took nearly an entire bottle feeding, but it seemed to really tire him out.

We started off today with a call from the hospital. Emerson's platelets were extremely low, at 25, and would need a blood transfusion. They would be adding blood cells to bring up his platelet count. We thought this may happen, since I had problems with low platelets through my entire pregnancy. Grant ok'd for the transfusion. We also confirmed that Emerson is O positive for future reference. We can ask friends and family to donate blood if they are his blood type for his open heart surgery in 6 months.

When we arrived the nurse told us that Emerson did well taking the entire bottle feed that day. She also showed me how to change his diaper. She gave us a diaper to take home as a memento to. They are so tiny! As his little wrinkly butt! Will be cute to look back on one day to remember how small he really was!

They rechecked his platelets later that afternoon, and thankfully they were up! They went from 25 to 135! We can hope that they stay up from here!

We cuddled with Emerson before and after his feeding. We had him out of his isolette for the longest time yet, 2.5 hours. While holding him I got to experience his first sneezes. Such a small achoo! It was so cute. I think having him out for 2.5 hours may have been to much for him because his oxygen levels kept dipping. :( But once he was back in his little house his oxygen seemed to go back to normal. He had taken three bottle feedings, so with his oxygen levels fluctuating the nurse gave his next feeding as a tube feeding. Its hard to see that such little activity really wears him out. Of course this made me extremely emotional, with a night full of tears. Seeing him struggle is the hardest thing. :( .

Its crazy how the littlest thing will break me down. I think I need to focus more on the big picture, and that he is beating all odds for 33 weeks gestation! Its not going to be huge strides all the time. Its going to be ups, downs, and sometimes we will just coast along. Its all part of the process! Let go of expectations...Emerson is already teaching me lessons. Lessons that often reappear when you need them the most ;)

Something happened for the first time. First Diaper Change By Mommy

We made progress. Food Increase: Up to 15cc's
Platelet's Back Up: After the transfusion his platelet count was back up.

We had a setback. New medical problem: Platelet count low - needed blood transfusion. This was not a full replace the blood type of transfusion. They simply added platelets to his current blood.

Another big event. Double Rainbow: Today outside the hospital there was almost a full double rainbow.

Melissa is feeling Helpless.

Melissa is looking forward to: A better day tomorrow.

Melissa is grateful for: Emerson's platelet count coming up!
