Kelly, the daytime nurse, did give one bottle feed to Emerson today before we arrived at the hospital. He took about half of the bottle, and they gavage'd the rest. The nurses are feeding Emerson based on his cues, so when he is fully awake they attempt to bottle fed. Most of the time during morning and early afternoon, he is sleeping. Looks like he is taking after daddy and mommy in that respect. HA!

Grandma and Grandpa came up for a visit today. Emerson started to wake up about 30 minutes before his 5 pm feeding (good sign!). So glad they got to visit him when he was a little more awake. :)

I got almost 15cc when I pumped for the 5pm feeding. That is the most I have ever gotten - exciting! I wish my pump sessions were more consistent though. Some times its as low as 3-5cc. :( The nurses are going to have one of the lactation consultants come by and see if they can give me some tips. Hopefully they can help me out!

Emerson woke up for both his 5pm and 8pm feedings. Eyes wide open and sticking out his tongue like he was ready for the bottle. Love it! He did take his full bottle feeding at 5pm, but he was fading there a bit towards the end. He was a champ at his 8pm feeding, taking the whole feeding in about 17 minutes! His suck is definitely getting stronger, and there are some points where I am barely holding the bottle, its all his suck. He also doesn't need me to provide chin support as much either, usually just towards the end of the feeding. We also heard great news later from the nurse that he also took a full bottle feeding at 11pm.

I got the welcome to mommy hood from Emerson today. Lots of poopie diapers, and while I was changing one of them I just put a new diaper under him and he pooped instantly. LOL Later I was changing his diaper, and as soon as that diaper was open he just started peeing everywhere. On me, the blanket, and even on the pulse cuff on his foot. I feel like I was initiated into motherhood after that :)

They did start Emerson on vitamins today, he gets them twice a day. They started him on Poly Vi Sol, a multivitamin, and will add an iron vitamin later. The vitamins are mixed in with his milk. We will continue the vitamins when he comes home through the first year, but will give both vitamins at once.

Emerson's weight was the same today, 3lbs 7oz. This has been his weight for the last three days. We know its a up and down process, but hoping for an up soon! Angela, the night nurse, asked us if the weight has stayed the same since his isolette was transferred in to a crib. And we looked back, and it was. She explained how Emerson is trying to maintain his temps and vitals while being out of the isolette, as well as taking more bottle feedings so he is probably just burning more calories. It takes a few days to usually regulate after these type of changes. Of course! We were glad she brought that to our attention.

We brought in a book, Good Night Moon, to read to Emerson before we leave for the night. So we ended our night with Emerson in my arms, and Grant moved in as close as he could and read Good Night Moon. Love these moments! <3
