Emerson is officially 35 weeks gestation! This was the week that I was hoping to stay pregnant till. But as we all can see, Emerson is doing way better outside the womb than he was in! 35 weeks is one of the criteria we have to meet till Emerson can be discharged. We can check that one off the list :)

On our way to the nursery we ran into Gail one of the lactation consultants. She mentioned how saw our name on the list for the birth class this past weekend and is working on giving us a refund. I totally forgot to call about that! I asked if we could just transfer the money to the CPR class, and she said well we are going to schedule time to come give both of you a private CPR class in Emerson's room, no charge! Have I mentioned lately how much I love this hospital?! :)

Today was a pretty low key day. Emerson was in a deep sleep when we arrived at the hospital. Nikki was the daytime nurse and she said he has bottle fed all his feedings. YAY! I thought we might see a feeding tube back in his nose when we arrived. All bottle feedings is a lot for our little guy. But he surprises us again!

He started to wake up about an hour before his 5pm feeding, which seems to be his normalcy the last few days. He was really fuss, even crying at times. :( Nikki said it had been 24 hours since his last poop. I rocked him a little bit to see if I could calm him down, but that only lasted a short while. I had to put him back in his isolette so I could pump for his feeding, and Grant and I both heard the explosion. LOL Grant went to change him and there was poop everywhere! Up his back, on his blankets, on his led wires...he was a mess! Nikki came in for backup to help change his led wires and pulse cuff. Nice little surprise for daddy. Ha! Boys will be boys :)

Grant and I decided to have genetic testing done for Emerson. When you have a positive amino, they do not do the genetic screening at birth. We wanted to have the test done so we could have it on Emerson's file once we start applying for occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, etc. They do the genetic test with a blood test. They do have to take quite a bit of blood, 3cc. So Nikki was going to draw the blood at his 5pm feeding. Grant and I decided to go grab some dinner - so I didn't end up an emotional mess!

When we got back from dinner Nikki said everything went great. Emerson was all fed and sound asleep. We let him get his rest and he started stirring about an hour before his 8pm feeding. Definitely a pattern, right? Waking up for feedings is great! He's getting so much stronger. Although he still seemed like he was trying to work out another poop. Poor guy was grunting and face was turning red! Wish I could take away is uncomfortableness! Angela was the night nurse tonight - she got his 8pm vitals. Weight was up 10 grams. A gain after full feedings, a big poop, and blood drawn - go Emerson!

8pm feeding went great! Emerson's eyes were open and he was looking around through the entire feeding. It wasn't until the last few drops that he started to look sleepy. Love watching him so alert! We got to snuggle for a good 45 minutes after his feeding before we headed home.

Happy 35 weeks Emerson! You are getting stronger each day!

Notes from MyPreemieApp:

September 26, 2013 – Today Emerson Robert Goulet is 2 weeks and 5 days old and weighs 3 lbs 10 ozs. The nurses taking care of Emerson Robert Goulet are Angela and Nikki.

We made progress. All feeds by mouth: Still going strong - has not needed the feeding tube back in!

Another big event. Medical procedure: Took blood (3cc) for genetic test

Melissa is feeling Proud.

Melissa is grateful for: Emerson's taking consistent bottle feedings!
